Madeline snuck the supplies into her office. She took a light pink sheet of construction paper and carefully cut it into the shape of a heart. She dumped the crayons onto her desk and thoughtfully selected some colors. She awkwardly took one into her left hand and tried to write the letter I. It was hideously crooked. By the time she had spelled out ‘I love you,’ she was laughing too hard to write her full name, and signed it ‘Maddy’ instead. The note looked like it had been penned by a second grader. She grinned. Paul would love it.
