“Hi, Walter!”

“Hey, sugar!” he greeted happily, giving her a quick hug. He hadn’t seen her for a month. “How are you? How was the mission?”

“It went well. I’m glad to be back though. I think,” she added quietly, glancing over her shoulder at the darkened Perch. “Do you think Operations is still angry with me?”

“Probably.” He looked at her uncharacteristically worried face. “Are you afraid of Operations?”

“Maybe,” she answered, finally returning her attention to his smiling face. She returned the gaze. “I’ll see you later, okay?”

Before she left, he said, “I’m glad you’re back, Madeline.”
