“This is your latest horticultural endeavor, isn’t it?” he asked, gesturing to one of her plants.

She stood next to him. “Yes. The style is shakan–slanting.”

“It appears much stronger than your other ones, the way the branches and trunk grow together.”

“The appearance is deceiving. Growth in the same direction is not what makes the plant strong.”

He looked at her, raising an eyebrow curiously.

“The strength comes from the roots, which grow in the opposite direction. They keep the tree anchored and balanced. It may seem contradictory at times…but the relationship they share is mutually rewarding.”
