Our roles as adversaries were becoming more difficult to maintain. We didn’t like the abuse, but it was necessary. We knew the risks when we started this two years ago. But it was no longer a question of fooling George; it was a matter of returning to our old selves when it was all over.

“And do something about that perfume. It smells cheap.”

I was able to catch a twinkle of amusement in her eyes. I had bought her that fragrance.

In the end, I know we will prevail, but it won’t be easy. In Section, it never is.
